'Free From My Inner Critic' is an online small group that runs over 3 consecutive weeks. Facilitated by Clinical Psychologist Rochelle Williams, the group guides you towards a deeper understanding of your 'inner critic' voice and provides practical tools and exercises to help you disengage from self-criticism and develop healthier self-talk for a more confident and peaceful relationship with yourself. Based in concepts from schema therapy but accessible to anyone, the small group is a supportive space for learning, reflection, and healing. There is a maximum of 6 participants to create an intimate and safe space.
A more detailed description of each session is provided below. Your spot in the group includes a digital workbook with resources and materials for reflection and practical activities both during the group, between group session and to support you with your critic in your future life beyond the group.
The next group will run over 3 sessions on:
Monday 16 November - 12:00-1:30pm
Monday 23 November - 12:00-1:30pm
Monday 30 November - 12:00-1:30pm
Enquire using the form on the left. If there are spaces remaining, you will be contacted for a brief, free intake phone call. Then you will be invited to make payment and sign the group consent form to secure your spot.
$180 total for 3 sessions and a digital workbook
The group is not suitable for anyone who has had thoughts of suicide or self-harm in the past 12 months, or who has a history of psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, or thoughts of harming others.
The group does not provide crisis support or treatment for mental health conditions - but referrals for individual therapy/support can be made to other services and psychologists if desired.
Session 1 introduces ideas from schema therapy to help us understand our inner critics. We explore different types of critics, and learn techniques from schema therapy to de-fuse from our critic and regain our sense of self separate from our inner critic. Guidance to practice mindfulness skills helps us notice the times and ways our critic impacts our daily lives.
Having come to a deeper awareness of our inner critic, we investigate the core belief systems underpinning our unique critic. We briefly consider the past life experiences that formed our inner critic (although we do not deep dive into the past in this group). We define what specific healing each of us needs, and learn practical ways to give ourselves the nurturance needed to move beyond the inner critic.
We continue to strengthen healthy self-talk and practice techniques to 'reparent' ourselves as part of our journey towards inner peace and a healthier relationship with ourself. We prepare for situations where we know we are vulnerable to our inner critic, and reflect together on ways to continue what we have started in the group in our future lives.
